    Cold underneath coming from above?

Hello! First time posting. I have a chill that I get on my underside. I think it is coming from 1 of 2 places. When I lay diagonal, there is a fairly large area of hammock not covered by me or my top quilt. I think cold air seeps through the hammock and settles in my underquilt. At first I thought the cold may have been conducting through the hammock itself. I have this same problem with a 40 degree underquilt and a 10 degree underquilt. Has anyone else experienced this? Should I try a tighter hang so I am straighter?

    Thanks!
    Mike

Where I have cold written is where I think the cold penetrates the hammock and settles in the underquilt. The red is to simulate the location of my uq.

could you share what underquilt you are using? perhaps it's not hung correctly. cold does not "seep" through my hammock and underneath me when my underquilt is positioned properly.

definitely not if you want to maintain any semblance of comfort.

Your UQ may have a gap at the foot end allowing cold air to seep in between it and the hammock. Have someone check that for you when you are laying in your hammock and adjust as necessary.

I'll try to get a picture of me in it. I did have an eno blaze. I make my own now. I would assume they are very similar to any commerial made uq. Mine are slightly longer and wider really.

I just took mine out for the weekend. I constructed my top and under quilts. Night number one I had the ends sinched pretty tight. My upper body was fine but everything from mid thigh was cold, the exact location of your picture. The next day I tweaked my setup and found it much more comfortable if I loosened the foot end. It helped snug the Underquilt up next to my legs. I had about a six inch gap pre adjustment and little to no gap after. Night number two was much warmer and more comfortable even with overnight temps being colder. I hope this helps.

how long have you been using your custom underquilts? have you always had cold spots in them? Did you ever have that problem with the ENO Blaze? What sort of suspension system do you have with your custom UQ's? Do they have draft collars?

See, I agree with that. If its too tight on the foot end it wont pull up enough and leaves a pocket under the legs. I sewed tabs on my quilt mid way on my legs and run a shock cord over my ridgeline to pull that section up. It keeps my legs very warm. I dont always use it. Only when it was real cold. Maybe that could be it.
