    Hello From Winchester, VA!

Hey folks, I've been on here for a while, and haven't gotten around to this part yet. But, better late than never. So here it goes. My name is Chip, I'm 28, I've been hammocking since 2006. My first hang back then was quite memorable. Since then I've gotten a much nicer hammock, learned all about insulation and got an under quilt, made a top quilt and pillow, and of course a tarp or 2. I'd like to get involved in some of the local hangs, and am just about always up for some local fishing.

Welcome from Charles Town, WV! A few of us go to the Sleepy Creek Wildlife Management Area from time to time to hang. It is near Berkeley Springs, WV. Either let me know when you would like to go, or the next time we plan a trip, we will holler at you.

    Peace,

    Ed

Thanks for the Warm welcome Everyone! EdLee, I actually work in the Panhandle. (less so in Morgan County) I've been wanting to check out Sleepy Creek, it looks pretty nice. Can you back country camp, or are you required to stay in the camp grounds? I'd like to check it out with you all on your next trip if my schedule allows.

Welcome Chip, I'm also just up the road. Sleepy Creek is nice but am not sure about back country camping, I'd guess no as they have semi-primitive sites and it's a wildlife management area.

Welcome! I have family living in that area. It would be great to get out and hammock camp while we're there. I don't have any recommendations near you but maybe some of our other members will. Shenandoah National Park is popular. George Washington and Jefferson National Forest will likely have backcountry opportunities.

ChipC, we will ping you the next time we go. Camping at Sleepy Creek is only in certain areas, but they are primitive, with just a fire ring to tell it is a site. There is a shack toilet at each campground, and depending on which campground you use, about 5 - 10 sites per campground.
