I wish you a speedy recovery. Anyone have a PLB when you fell? Shug's video pushed me over the edge to buy one.

Let me say this 1st. Linville gorge is NOT somewhere anyone should hike alone IMHO. There was not PLB from what I know of. Fortunately cell phones worked where I ended up stopping. I called my Brother while we were waiting for rescue to let him know the situation 1st hand and to inform my Family ( I've seen far too many times how conjecture and rumor on the interwebz can completely fabricate facts from truth.) I wanted them to know the truth. On those line I actually did have a not hiking fried call me all freaked out because, he saw I died over on Fussbook

PLB's are definitely good to have if you solo much

I'm drawn to the open country. Its where the world makes the most sense. When I put myself out there I always return with something new.

i wish you the best for your recovery... I know what you are going through, I had mine 200 fall from the icy hill too. Was dealing with seriously broken leg for quite a long time, but I am 100% OK now. Dont forget, there is light at the end of the tunnel, and you will be walking again. And much, you will enjoy it more

So nice to hear from you CB. Keep the spirits up. Thoughts and prayers for a speedy and full recovery are going out to you.

Glad to hear you're doing well, CB! Being stuck in a hospital sucks, but hey... you've got time to learn how to do wheelies in that wheelchair

I've had one on my list but never pulled the trigger. Solo is really all I do, and well off the trail or kayaking in very remote places. I've slid by for the past 8 years, but it could catch up to me. I really need to just throw down the $250 and have the peace of mind.

... of course my wife wants me to carry it so they can recover the body for insurance purposes!

Thanks for the video Hawk-eye. That really puts the size into perspective (much smaller than the stock photos show). I wish I could replace the battery myself, but the $40 or whatever they charge every 5 years isn't the end of the world.

Glad you're bouncing back, Jeremy. Sounds like you've got a good mindset. You can make some bucks on the side if you set up a group buy of ACRs.

I took the time to show this video to my 10yr old. He has always heard me say "pay attention, every step matters". He understood what I meant but is simply too young to understand the implications of a fall. Hopefully this video helped him understand that we are blessed to be able to explore, but must be careful... Always. Even then, healthy, fit and experienced hikers can be bitten by the mountains. I pray that the hiker has a fast and full recovery. I'm also thankful he had experience and capable trail mates.
