Does anyone here hike and hang your hammocks around the Lake Placid Region this time of year? It should be pretty cold and creepy in its haunting beauty.. It is my favorite time of year for Lake Placid.

Watch out for the crocs.
Or are they hibernating by now?
It's all in the reflexes.
The bears are hibernating and out of the picture for the rest of the winter. The Lake Placid Region without the bears always bothering you can be fun.
Cold at Lake Placid? Maybe if your from Ethiopia. I lived at Avon Park, FL a stones throw away. The croc's are the concern. It's a little (if not a lot) creepy hearing the croc's all day and night - it's my version of a scary Jaws movie.
I'm guessing the OP is referring to Lake Placid NY, home of the 1980 winter olympics. The one in Florida is a whole 'nuther place.
I'd be game for a hang up that way. I've camped nearby on Floodwood Road in Saranac (a spot I really like!) several times. Coldest I've seen there was -17F overnight.
Something after the holidays, perhaps? I have it on good authority that Santa will be bringing me an UQ (if I'm good...)
My DD hanging sans tarp (fair weather) at a summer canoe trip in the Saranac area...
Yes.. Lake Placid in Northern New York. That is where the bears are.
Now that we've got that cleared up, shall we start planning a winter hang?
I could possibly get away for the weekend of Dec 19, otherwise I guess it would have to be sometime in January. I wouldn't have the previously mentioned UQ on the 19th, but I reckon I can handle down to the single digits without it.
I'll forward this thread to a couple buddies who might be interested...
I will not be able to make it in during December. I will be busy with work. I used to cross country ski in Lake Placid. I have been caught in more than a couple snow storms and blizzards up there. I would not want to hammock there without an underquilt.
