    Pad or Underquilt??

Im somewhat new to hammock camping... With that said, i have never hung in warm weather... Mostly fall and early spring.... My question is what works best in the warmer months... A under quilt or a pad.... I have a 40 degree under quilt but didn't know if that would be too warm...

The 40* underquilt is perfect for most warm weather applications. I use my 40* Incubator from Ice-out through fall. Any nights too warm for my 40* quilt (80* +), I use an underquilt protector alone just to keep the breeze off my back side.

80° at night? Oh man, I'd be in a coma.

    Pad or Underquilt??

I get cold below 70*F and use insulation below 65*F. Between those two temps, I tough it out.

Test your limits, see how you like it - you might be a warm sleeper or a cold sleeper.

And yes, an under quilt unless you enjoy squirming for five minutes to get a pad situated under yourself.

I've slept in 100 plus at night, but not in a hammock.

I can use my Underquilt well into much warmer temps. Sort of like how your mattress at home is like 10 inches thick but if you're too hot you kick off the top covers instead of changing out your mattress. Your 40° UQ should work fine up to 70° or so, just find something lighter for a top quilt during the warmer nights.

I used a pad for a few months before modifying an old sleeping bag to an underquilt. I used that one night and almost immediately invested in a proper underquilt. it was an investment, but it was a huge jump in comfort over a pad.
