Seems to me that the slightly higher foot end actually prevents sliding. Due to the uneven weight distribution of the typical human body the slight incline seems to help most folks. Of course YMMV

I prefer the foot end higher. It seems to help me stay diagonal, especially with a tight suspension of an UQ trying to straighten me back out. Maybe it's placebo, but it seems to help.

The material isn't mentioned often. But I think that is key. My WBBB 1.1DL and Traveler 1.7SL are OK, but nowhere near as comfortable as my Grand Trunk Parachure Single. It has a heavy, but somewhat stretchy material and I think that eliminated the ridge completely. It is also 10.5', so I'm sure that help. NO ridgeline, which just seems to interfere with the hang and make things worse.

I have found that sometimes I'll set up my hammock and it has no ridge then once I load it up with the quilts and stuff a bit of ridge may appear. I loosen it up a bit after that.
