I always have a pair of CL's and dogbones (fancy name for a length of amsteel with fixed loops on both ends) with my suspension. Rarely use em, but I'm used to carrying them so I do. Keep it all in an AHE sap sack.

A dogbone is basically a piece of hollow core line (Amsteel, Zing-It, etc) with a locked brummel fixed loop of varying size according to need on each end. If you've spliced whoopies and Cls you can splice a dogbone no problem.

I'm guessing it gets its name from its shape- sort of like a dogbone treat. I don't know that for certain but makes sense to me.

I have a 2' dog bone larkshdaded to each tree strap. There when you need them and out of the way when you don't.

I carry extra zing it for tarp setup or other repairs and I carry a couple of amsteel loops for extending my hammock suspension. in my opinion it is better to extend the amsteel than straps because there is no extra stretch to worry about.

The straps for my Whoopies are 8' long, I nearly cut them down to around 6', but something told me to wait till the end of my last trip to decide, I was so glad I waited, found ONE site to hang from one night, , one of the trees was 6.5' around. SO, I don't carry extensions, I just use really long straps.
FWIW: my straps are bright ORANGE because I have left my black straps behind when they blended in with the trees early AM. The Orange ones don't blend in with anything. I haven't even come close to forgetting them, but they do make "stealth" camping nearly impossible. Can see them from at least 100' away even through a fair amount of trees. My straps are luggage rack straps* from Harbor Freight, I don't notice any sag, & after about 50 hangs, no wear. *with the buckles cut off.
When you have a backpack on, no matter where you are, you’re home.
PAIN is INEVITABLE. MISERY is OPTIONAL.

I also carry long straps. 15 footers , i mostly car camp and don't care about wieght at all but i do not want to come up short either, i also carry extensions.
I over pack,, carry extras of everything and am allways carrying way more than i need.
But i love to tinker with my gear, for me it's part of the enjoyment i get out of camping
