    Extensions

I am interested in what you carry for extension material if needed for hanging your hammock or tarp.
Right now I have 4' straps with whoopie sling for hammock. Would I want to carry additional footage of strap or amsteel if I needed more distance?
Also, for the tarp, I have zing it with fleas. So, all I need to carry is extra piece of zing it, or am I getting this wrong?
Pictures of your extension system would be helpful.
    Thanks

I've taken to carrying ( sometimes) an extra tree strap. My thinking is that it's more in case I break or lose one, but I suppose it could be rigged as an extension for bigger trees. I'd have to give some thought to exactly how.

As for other line, I carry about 10 feet of zingit in my repair kit. Never had to use it. I'm also now adding a 6 foot piece of Illumaline. And I'm usually wearing a Paracord bracelet just in case. I also have 2 soft shackles on the pack.

I use the warbonnet webbing suspension with 15' of strap on each side, one of the big reasons being I needed to add an extension to my straps just about every time so I figured at that point just cut out the whoopie slings etc all together and go all webbing. Before that I kept a 6ft amsteel dogbone in my stake bag for an extension. I also use 50' of dynaglide with a fixed eye at each end for a bear bag line that can be used for extending tarp or hammock suspension if needed (hasn't been yet) and a hank of zing it for clothes line, guy lines, whatever is needed. I also keep a little coil of the annealed wire I use for splicing in there too. In the event of a failure i could remake a whole suspension for the hammock or tarp for the cost of about 2 oz.

My method is longer tree straps. 8 foot straps with whoopies. If the straps are too long they easily will wrap 2 or 3 or more times around the tree to take up the extra.
Just one less thing for me to lose

I always carry a couple of Amsteel continuous loops to extend my tree straps when the tree is too wide. I've never had to extend my tarp ridgeline since it's already 35 ft. I couldn't hang between trees that far apart anyway.

Arrowhead equipment sells Amsteel extensions for straps at a very reasonable price. Seem like a great idea.

For tarp line extensions or additional tie downs etc I carry braided mason line. Cheap, strong, light.

I get piece of mind from carrying an extra piece of Amsteel. It allows me to use it as a backup if one of them breaks but also as an extension. The thought of sleeping on the ground is too much to not take it. You have to be quite the gram weenie to care about that little extra weight.

Make yourself up a coupkle of amsteel Dogbones, a couple 1 footers a couple 3 footers whatever you have in amsteel laying around turn into dogbones for just in case and as for the tarp carry around 20 - 30 ft of zing it, it could be handy for more then just your tarp.

Will have to look up what a dogbone is , and how they are used.
