rerun- There is a small creek on the west rim loop. There are restroom facilities and water available on the east side.

TrailSlug- It is a State Park and all camping sites require reservations. We made ours online, it was no-hassle.

La Picker- They do not allow dispersed camping in the park, camping in designated areas only.

I posted a short trip video and a few pictures here.

Our pioneer site had water spigots, latrines and covered picnic tables.

Thanks John. Do they have "designated camping" on the West Rim Loop? I guess what I'm trying to ascertain is 'Are there designated sites spread throughout the wild areas of the park or are they concentrated in a specific area?'

I've been eyeing this beautiful park for some time now and I'm very curious about it. But I have little tolerance for "campgrounds" per se.

there's on particular trail with like a dozen designated backcountry campsites spread out around it. they also have RV sites and a campground with walk-in sites. I have no idea what they mean by "pioneer camp". unless i'm overlooking it, the website does not elaborate on that.

There is designated camping on the west loop, but I didn't take time to look at the campsites. I think they were probably all grouped together, just what you're not looking for.

You might be interested in the sites along the back-country loop where we camped, they are more spread out. Here's a link to their site-

We stayed in the "Backcountry Campsites". They were nice, and remote enough that you couldn't see the other people out there even if you heard them from time to time. Just keep in mind, it's not a wilderness "ambiance" with all the sounds around the park.

We hiked the West Rim Loop yesterday (4/28/2018).
We took our hammocks but never found a approved spot with a view for lunch on the canyon side(yellow blazed trail in the pic below)
I need to do some more research and find out where that spot is.

We left @ 9AM and the parking lot was empty. When we returned @ 2PM it was full.

Parking is $5 for the day. You can pay for a parking pass at the Visitor Center upon entrance to the park.

I couldn't tell from the state park website but is there water like a stream or something near the backcountry camping sites?
    Thanks

I seem to remember an intermittent stream that ran through the area, but to be honest I'm not entirely sure. Plenty of places to grab tap water on the way in tho IIRC.

I was researching this trail when I ran across this...... as of March 21, 2016, the Bear Creek Backcountry Trail is closed east of Bear Creek indefinitely.
