What are the Con's to Whoopie Slings?

I will be converting from a HH with carabiners and rappel rings for suspension to a DH with whoopie slings in a few short weeks. I've done a bit of research and learned about many advantages to whoopie slings such as weight savings and ease of adjustment but I haven't heard a lot on the negative side. The one exception being to ensure your sling is over the knot, not the toggle.

What are the Con's to whoopie slings? What should I keep an eye out for and what WILL go wrong once I begin to test them out?

    Thanks!

Not putting the knot on the knot and just looping it over the toggle is one.
Whoopie slipping off toggle before entering hammock...always check.

I've had difficulty adjusting in icy conditions. They also add to your minimum hanging distance.

Does that mean you can get away with shorter tree straps with whoopie slings?

Somewhat. You would still need a strap long enough to get around the largest expected tree, but you wouldn't need as much excess. What I am referring to is if the trees are too close, you can only get so short with your whoopies when compared to a simple loop/strap/marlin spike hitch suspension.

Minimum hang distance is the minimum space between trees. It's determined by the lenght of hammock + suspension components that need space to function.....tarp length can also factor in. Cinch buckles have usually a few inches to add to the hammocks lenght. Whoopies need room for the locking bury and a little room for the Marlin spike hitch and toggle. So Whoopies over some other systems do need an extra 2ish foot of space between the trees. Not necisarily a disadvantage but something to be aware of.

I don't see an issue... If your hang distance is that tight you could always hang your CL over the toggle on one end (not using the whoopie) and just hang the hugger or strap lower on that end.

Twice the amsteel as compared to UCR (roughly), as well as slipping of toggle when you adjust
