    OH-Zaleski Question

Not sure if this belongs here, wasn't quite sure which forum to put it in. Im planning a trip to zaleski in july. Its an important one because its the introductory trip for the wife. I've read a few instances of the water spigots running dry during the summer months. I was planning on stashing some water at the road crossings just in case. Can anyone that frequents zaleski shine some light on how often these spigots do run dry, and maybe how busy the weekends are during the summer months?

    Thanks for any help!

As long as it's not right after the 4th you should be good. Major holidays see a rise in use. The water has to be trucked into the holding tanks. If you stay at the first two sites you can drive down the logging trail to check the site and stash water if needed.

Make sure you pack an air conditioner July can be brutal. She may never want to go again. And the bugs!

....and theres significant amounts of poison ivy on some sections of the trail and around some of the camp areas. Not a problem if you know what youre looking for.

A little battery powered personal fan might be worth it. It can get muggy, especially inside a netted hammock. No net is not an option either.

Or go to 4000+ft elevation. I usually go to eastern WVA in the summer months. It's kinda far but worth it

The ranger station can tell you about the water levels. I think they keep a pretty good eye on it. Zaleski is a good "take the wife for her first time and make sure she likes camping" trip. My wife and I did it for our first trip a couple of years ago. I would check out the forums on Backpackohio.com if you haven't already. The forum isn't nearly as active as this one, but there is some decent info, and their trail guide pdf's are pretty good. (Although Zaleski is pretty easy to navigate, even without the guide. Have fun. I second the small fan idea. 85 degrees in a hammock can make it really tough to sleep.
Homer: Sir, I need to know where I can get some business hammocks.

Hank Scorpio: Hammocks? My goodness, what an idea. Why didn't I think of that? Hammocks!
