    australian hammock campers

    Hey guys,
I live in australia and Just bought my first hammock. (mosquito hammock jungle hammock)
I was wanting to see if there are any other aussies especially from nsw who hammock camp. I haven't had the chance to use it yet and wanted to see how people have handled nsw temps. I have read about the uqs ccf and space blanket options and just wanted to see if they are even necessary over here due to warmer temps.
Great forums. I am enjoying reading them and I have even made custom snake skins for my hammock from the diy section.
I will post some photos of my first test hang and mods in a few weeks.

    Welcome Dave.

If you jump down to the Trip Report forum, there is a thread from a fellow Aussie about his Hammock Camping adventures in the late fall of Canada.

As for your question above about needing bottom insulation, make a note to ask that question again when the overnight low temps drops below 21 or 22C ;-). (72-73F for the metric challenged). Since it is summer in your part of the world, if your night time lows are above these temps you may not need any bottom insulation. However, I choose to live by the creed of better to have it and not need it then the reverse.

    Cheers

    Brian

This weekend will be way too hot for comfort, I'm trying to go for a day trip to binna burra tomorrow, the air is a bit cooler over there.

NSW here. Used a hammock in all seasons here as well as FNQ and ACT/Snowys. All good.

Sydney here. Welcome! I've used my hammock down to abouts 3deg C with the HH SupaShelter and a slleping bag used as a quilt and been toasty warm. I haven't had a chance to hang in hot weather yet so cn't say how low I could go without an underpad. Still, I'm WAY more comfortable in my hammock than on the ground!

I'm in Melbourne. I've just done the one trip so far with my daughter in summer. Sooo much more comfortable than a tent although I had not yet attached netting and we were hiding from mossies all night. I've just placed an order for netting and that is my project these holidays. Welcome to the world of hammocks.

    Awesome response

Hey guys awesome to see so many people respond! I didn't expect it. Thanks for the advice re: insulation too.
FYI I bought some snakeskins from Hennessey Hammocks and the shipping was going to be $200 for 20 buck snakeskins! I got in contact with them and a guy from NZ and gave me a call and I only had to pay $10 US to have them shipped from NZ. So if you buy anything from HH (and you live in AUS) make sure you shoot them an email and they should be able to help lower your shipping!
