20 miles on the AT in the rain and mud: Watauga Lake Area, Hampton, TN

Continuing my AT hiking, trying to finish NC and TN from Damascus to I-40 by the end of the year.

20 miles from TN91 (Cross Mountain) near Shady Valley, to Hampton TN US 321 around Watauga Lake, over the dam, and through 4 miles of bear area. Didn't go quite as planned, but my new Tie-Dyed Hammeck Netty was FREAKING AWESOME! Never again into my old, too short cramped Hennessy (hey my fault, Hennessy is a good hammock, but I should have bought the long version). Definitely loving the side zips and easy access in and out, plus my tie-dye fabric just rocks the woods.

LOTS of rain and mud mud mud.

I go whichever way is more downs than ups... that's how I decide my hikes! On this one it was great to go SOBO since I was in the middle of the bubble of thru hikers. I got to meet a lot going NOBO. Their stories are just great.

    LOL classic!!!

Phones sure use a lot of battery running GPS. I started recording a track last weekend only to turn it off 3 minutes later after I saw it devouring the battery.

    Love that "marathon" photo...too funny!

I like more ups than downs. Better on my knees and I need to lose weight! Went NOBO two weeks ago from Erwin to Iron Mtn Gap. Met a few thru hikers and gave a little trail magic to one (Soaker, from Colorado Springs) when we got to my truck that we had staged at the Iron Mtn Gap parking.
