I hike and camp with Dewey all the time. He's a 20 pound Scottie.
He sleeps on the ground and occasionally in the hammock

My 2 labs love going with me. However, I don't think the hammock would last long with 170 extra pounds of canine. 1 dog gets tethered to each tree with a lead long enough for them to meet in the middle under my hammock. That's generally where they like to sleep: curled up together right under my UQ.

My 25 lb Shih Poo loves sleeping in the hammock with me. The only concern I have is the material of one of my hammocks doesn't like Velcro (it seems to cause pulls) so I worry about her claws. I fixed this by using a moving blanket that we lay on. Extra insulation and no claw marks She likes to sleep like Mic's dog or between my legs. Extra warmth on a cold night. The only problem I have is 'the midnight run'. She's a bed hog and makes sure to voice her displeasure when I come back and disturb her.

Sweet. I'm going to try my first overnight with her this week! She's only 13 pounds so I think we'll sleep fine together in the hammock. :-)

Slept in the hammock with her this weekend and it was great. She seemed to like it. I stuck her in a pillow case to keep some of the dirt on her off of my bed. She tolerated that, too. :-)

No way the 60 pound Akita is coming in the hammock with me. She is enough work just having her clipped to the hammock suspension.
