First time using pole mod... Wow, it's a whole new world!

Both Friday and Saturday were wicked windy and using the side pull outs with trekking poles didn't do enough to keep the tarp off my side. Pretty annoying for sure.

I bought my MamaJamba from a forum member and it cam with pockets and tie down for the pole mod, but I had yet to try it until today. I had quite a few lengths of fiberglass rods and sourced some steel collars to join the pieces together. No doubt my materials are a bit too flexible and far to heavy for trail use but they work perfectly for testing and all I can say is wow!!! There is a ton of room with pole installed. I also tried one corner up in porch mode with the pole installed and it is equally cool with the windward side pulled all the way out.

Now to find the best source for lighter sections that are short enough to be pack friendly..

Are the carbon poles Dutch sells flexy enough for an internal pole mod?

I think they are a good option, though I need to investigate what length will pack best for me.

Good news is last nights hang was awesome. Heavy rain all night but wind wasn't too bad. Other than occasionally waking to confirm all stakes were still intact, I slept great. Totally dry.

Pole mods are legit! I have the poles from Dutch. I don't hike with them, but I love them when car hammocking.

Thanks for the thumbs up for the carbon poles. I have two cub scout campouts scheduled in the next 6 weeks. So, I may give them a try. I spent a lot of time in porch mode last time.

Pole mod is awesome. I highly recommend poles from Fibraplex. Insanely light and completely customizable, both in terms of total length and in number of sections the poles collapse into.

    Thanks for the feedback all!

The mod I used was an 'under-the-tarp', two pocket with a ribbon tie-off at the ridgeline. It required a fairly long pole assembly. I am curious to try the 'over the ridgeline mod using my trekking pole, as well as a smaller version of the poles I used this weekend. I always have sticks with me...

The Zpacs arctic blast which has two easily detached CF battens a little less than two feet long. Connected with some sort of 6 inch binder thy could act as a two-fer pole mod. has anyone attempted this? It wb great over the head of a bridge hammock to increase the tarp width.

There was some implication that trekking poles don't work well. Did I misread that, or is there some reason?
