I don't think trekking poles flex enough like the poles I see in pole mod tarps. Certainly not enough for an inside pole setup. Maybe for an outside pole mod?

    I certainly agree.

I wasn't clear. While my first setup was an under-the-tarp single pole setup, I have been experimenting with over-the-ridge line mini pole setups with two shorter poles instead of one long one. First few attempts didn't go so well, but I have a few more ideas. I wouldn't mind carrying the long pole on shorter outings, but I would like to be able to use the trekking poles on longer outings since they would be multi-purpose rather than dedicated single purpose poles.

I use a pole mod on two of my tarps, a Superfly and a DIY winter tarp. Hiking poles would be way to heavy and have a lot of potential to rip a hole in the tarp IMHO. I use mine for porch mode but not for the outside pole mod. (In fact, I'm under them in a cozy thunderstorm, 1.5 M from a road as we speak...)

Sweet... gotta love these kinds of responses.

I've ditched the idea of using my trekking poles, sad to say. I really liked the idea of multi-use and not having to carry the dedicated, single use poles for the pole mod. I used the fiber glass driveway-marker poles again for last evenings hang. The FG is too flexible and if I stay with the 2QZQ under-tarp mod I have I'll definitely switch to CF poles.. likely arrow shafts as I have a bunch of them.

I still want to experiment with the double over-the-ridge line poles for a few reasons.

Last night I set up with the tarp pretty low and tight as the reports were for rain, though it didn't come until I had already broke down my setup. I used the single under-tarp pole with the foot end of my tarp up in porch mode with the trekking pole. I've found this setup, three corners down and tight, and one up (with or without the poll mod), works great for shedding rain, yet gives me plenty of ventilation and visibility. But with the tarp set low, I kept getting poked and hung up on the end of the center pole when I went under the tarp. Over the tarp poles would remedy this for sure.

Also, there are times when I can be happy with just a single pole set at either the head end or foot end. I could carry just enough sections to make one shorter pole.

Back to the drawing board. Good thing I have tons of the FG poles to play with.

do you have any advice or can you point to a thread that talks on through the pole mod on a superfly?

Those are the threads that inspired me. I use the two pole over tarp. My buddy bought me the pockets for the 2qzq mod and he is using that exclusively now but I still prefer the two over tarp poles. I do strongly recommend a CRL over the tarp for protection if you use the over tarp style.
