    Atlas Straps and Ridgerunner

What would be the downsides to using Atlas style straps with the Ridgerunner? There would be about a 6 oz weight penalty (plus the hardware to attach the hammock to the straps so say 12oz). I'd also lose the "infinite" adjustment of the included straps versus Atlas straps .

Reason I'm asking is I've been reading some books on the AT and one of the common denominators in all of them is the copious amounts of rain on the AT. With Atlas straps they could be deployed and then packed away separate from the hammock keeping the wet and tree sap off the hammock.

I will admit I have not had to stuff a Ridgerunner in the rain so maybe the factory straps don't get that wet or hold water to make it a concern.

If you want to keep your straps separate from your ridgerunner use this system from Dutch.

I agree with biggy. The Cinch bug system works very well with the RR

Another option is to simply roll the straps and stuff them in a sap sack. I use two of these orange sacks.

Or........................swap out your suspension to whoopee slings and use a tree strap/toggle/marlinspike hitch------------saves weight, easy to adjust, and you can pack the straps separately if wet! (really easy to use and install whoopies!)
FYI: If you want to know what type a certain bear is, sneak up behind it and kick it. Then,
run like crazy and climb up a tree. If the bear climbs the tree and eats you, it's a black
bear. If the bear just pushes the tree over and eats you, it's a grizzly bear : )

Do not walk behind me, for I may not lead. Do not walk ahead of me, for I may not follow. Do not walk beside me, either, just leave me alone.

I use the anchors from Hammock Fan, very similar to Dutch's offering.

I agree. I use this setup and it's super light and easy to set up. If you haven't used a toggle before look at Shug's video on the correct way to use one.
