hey new to the forum and first post!

just got a HH recently and excited about it. considering a zipper mod and it seems like the #2 is the most popular. why is it more popular than the #3? what are the advantages?

    thanks for reading.

i think #2 mod is more popular because it allows "all side" entry and easier handling of the net when unzipped. I have a diy #3.

It is easier to stow aawy the net on a #2. Also you can access both sides which is nice for adjusting a quilt. Although I think the numbers should be swtched and the #3 is the more extensive mod. But I think it is too late to cahnge it now.

I have #2 and Dutch is right, when the netting is zipped up you can pull down both sides and adjust your underquilt. I miss being able to do that on my Blackbird. And you can tie the netting out of way during the day when you are using the hammock as a chair. It's a great mod. I've never regretted getting it for my HH.

I thought long and hard on getting the #2 mod. I got the number 3 mod and love it.
The #3 allows me to stow the net...not as nicely....as #2..no stow tabs.

The main need and desire for me was a dual zipper on one side to allow easy access and egress while allowing full access to the top of the hammock.. This is fully accomplished. (spine injury)

Is the net fully, or very nearly fully, out of the way with #2 mod? If so, it would allow use of a Speer Pea Pod.

I've heard of a couple of guys with that setup on a Mod 2. I believe 2Trees is one, I'm sure there are others. It should work because the unzipped net ties off at three places to the lower side out of the way.

thanks for all the replys. lots of help here.

so im not experienced enough with the hammock to know what is involved with adjusting a quilt but why is that possible with mod 2 and not 3? also i have seen the hammock used as a chair with no mod at all. is it just a matter of how far back to can lay?

im ashamed to admit it but my main concern is the difference in like 3 ounces between the mods haha.

im also assuming the zippers do not change anything in the way of packability right?

No knowledge YET on quilt adjusting.
Mod 3 has no difference in packability. Still slips into the skins.

Adjusting a quilt (or atleast my diys) from inside the hammock is possible with mod # 3, even adjusting the components of the supershelter is easy on that side on which there is no zipper, but i do have the netting a bit in the way. It would be easier with #2.
