    DIY Topquilt

I finished up a new top quilt last week, it was planned to be a 40* but I think it is closer to a 30*. I used charcoal gray 1.0 hyperd diamond for the outside and black .66 membrane 10 taffeta for the inside. For the baffles I used 1.5" noseeum and I used a little cobalt 1.9 ripstop to trim the edges. I did a sewn foot box that had three baffles and I ended up with 20 baffles in the quilt . All of the materials were purchased from Ripstop by the Roll. The down is 700 fill power that I harvested from two Costco quilts.

Great footbox! Also, with such narrow baffle spacing you shouldn't have any issues with down shifting.

    Very nice job.

    What's the weight? Dimensions?

That looks sweet! I want to attempt to make my own also. I am just learning to use the thread injector. How would you rate your skills? Again, awesome job.

Great job! How much do you think it cost to build?

I made the quilt big, it is 55" wide by 76" long. It is a half taper, it went down to 40" before I put in the foot box. I will weigh it tomorrow.

3 yards of membrane 10 - $30, 3 yards hyperd - $21, noseeum baffle material - $10, 2 Costco down blankets - $40 gives a total of roughly $100. If I would have went a little shorter I would have only needed two yards of each material which would have saved $17.

I ripped out the horizontal seams so that there were vertical channels in the Costco throws. I then shook all of the down to one end. I then opened one channel at a time and used a vacuum to suck out the down. If you put a piece of noseeum at the end of the wand, that is as far as the down will go. Then take the wand with the down and insert it into the new quilt and blow the down out of the wand. It would take about three times for each channel of the Costco throw. You can use the vacuum to suck the down that is trying to escape right out of the air also!
