Also I was told there may be some places you can't hang
what do you do?Don't tell them you are hanging.

When looking for different areas to take my scout troop backpacking, I try to do as much researching as I can. If that area has a ranger or a park official, I call them and ask questions. If I find one that says no hammocks, I continue looking and find another place to go.
I haven't run across this situation....yet.... but if I, for some unknown reason, happened to find myself in a place that flat out would not let me hang up my hammock... if I was backpacking, I'd keep walking...at least until I found an area that couldn't be seen by tent campers. Hammocks are farely easy to hide, well as long as your tarp isn't neon pink or some such like that!!! Even when I hang in a well established camping spot, my hammock tends to merge into the background. So, if I did manage to get myself into an area that says no hammocking, I'd try to be as unobtrusive as possible and stay there the least amount of time as I could.
Now if you can't hang because there's no trees, you better have a back-up plan
