    Operation Pea Pod

I have been sleeping stealth in the Catskill Mountains for the past week. It has snowed rained and sleeted.. As a unit the pea pod and the Claytor Hammock work great together to keep someone like me warm. I like the simplicity of hanging up a hammock and using the Pea Pod as under and over insulation. I think that I could survive the winter doing this routine. The Pea Pod might not look that pretty or refined but it does keep me warm. Each day I take down my hammock and set it up somewhere else in the woods around Hunter Mountain. Everynight I have been sleeping in a different location. Since I am being stealth and invisible nobody in the town of Hunter suspects me of hammocking in their own backyards.. Doing this is fun.

JJ, as one who has been known to recommend Pea Pods, I am tickled it is working so well for you. Like other approaches, it is probably not the best way to go for every one. But for them it works for ( maybe most pod users IMO), it just works so well!

Even though I do not care that much for the Claytor no net hammock ( it is too thin and narrow ) it does work superbly with the pea pod. So together they make up a superior system for comfort warmth and sleeping. I could have used a wider hammock like the Warbonnet Traveler or the Speer hammock. But I think that the narrowness of the no net hammock increases the heat inside the pea pod and keeps me safe from freezing. I also have added a fairly large Hammock Sock to cover the Pea Pod and the hammock.. This adds ten to fifteen degrees more inside heat.

I can sleep diagonal in the peapod. The Claytor no net hammock seems very narrow and is not as wide as other hammocks are..... In the winter I would rather keep myself warm than be too comfortable anyway. Even in the summer the temperatures can go down to the thirties around here. It is often more cold here than up in Vermont or New Hampshire.
