My son and I took the opportunity to hike on the AT while we were in North Georgia. We had planned to do an overnight on the trail, but had a few other things we wanted to accomplish in the area (in other words, my wife was along on this trip also). We chose the section for ease of access since my wife would be coming back to pick us up. Glad we did, the views were really nice. We started at Neels Gap and hiked south to Woody Gap, about 11 miles. Hiked over Blood Mountain and had lunch at the shelter. Met several nice people along the way. We visited the store at Neels Gap, nice people and a nice store as well.
Also, while we were in the area, we visited North Georgia Mountain Outfitters in Ellijay, GA. Such a nice store and great owners, Travis and Shirley Crouch run the store and were super nice and really helpful. If you are ever in the area, look them up and visit the store, you won't be disappointed.
Below is the video from our hike, and below that are two videos I did in preparation. I went through what we had planned to carry for the overnight, but since we changed our plans, our packs were just day pack stuff instead. The other video showed one of our favorite trail meals, it may not be the very best...but is really good, and it is cheap and easy.
Hope you enjoy the videos, and find them helpful.
