    Coffee from the hammock

As most do, I enjoy my morning coffee from my hammock. However, I don't enjoy having to get out of my warm hammock to get the grounds from my food bag, which is usually hanging away from my sleeping area.

Do any of you keep your coffee in your pack, near your hammock? Do you worry about animals getting into it?

I usually opt to hang it in the food bag. But then end up hanging the bag way closer to the hammock than I should.

No food, no beverages anywhere near the hammock. I live in bear country.

Not trying to cheap-out here, but I often use the single-serving instant since it's so much easier (and I'm not yet a true coff-a-holic...)

I've always assumed that the way those packets are sealed, they shouldn't share any aroma with the critters. This might not be the solution you want, but I think it might be an option if you're concerned about animals.

It depends on where I am. If I'm camping in a state park or more populated area, yeah I keep my kit close and have been known to have coffee and breakfast in hammock. If I'm truly in the back-country then best practices apply and I deal with the inconvenience.

It's a matter of calculated risk. You have to weigh the pros and cons for yourself. Know where you're going and make informed decisions. Happy hanging!

My coffee stays pretty close along with breakfast for that morning in a sealed container on the ground under the tarp by the hammock. That's been working fine so far. Honestly I am not that worried about bear or critters.

I get up and get mine that is hanging in my food bag. Then back in the hammock. I'm mostly asleep and desperate.

Guard dog for the coffee. Now that's an idea! I'd ask my cats to do that, but I don't think I'd get the response I'd want, just holes in the hammock.

On the wall, yea my coffee kit (aero-press) is right above me. On the ground, it just depends on where I'm at. When bears are active, it's best not to have it around. Not worth the run-in.
