CRL and prussic question - line recommendation

So I use a crl for my tarp with 1.75mm zing-it prussics at the end of my tarp. I find it really easy to set up and easy to adjust. My issue is the line I use for the ridge line. I started with 550 and the prussics held great but the stretch, bulk, and weight are less than ideal. I switched to a generic 330 paracord that REI sells and found that it doesn't stretch but the sheath material is different and doesn't seem to hold my zing it prussics well. I was considering switching to a 2 or 2.2 mm zing-it ridge line but was unsure how well this would work with the prussic knots I love so much.

Any recommendations on a line best suited for a ridge line and zing-it prussics?

Not looking to go overkill with amsteel either. Thanks guys!

I use Zing-it 1.75 mm for my CRL and soft shackle prusiks. While some folks feel that the diameter of the line used for the prusiks needs to be smaller, you can just throw in an extra wrap (four instead of three) and it will hold until the slippery Samthane coating wears off. Then you can go back to three wraps.

    Excellent. Thanks

How about a mini-ucr in place of a prusik? Post #16 and below. https://hammockforums.net/forum/show...tarp-connector

I don't get it. How does a UCR differ from a whoopie? Don't you have the same problem with inability to adjust the UCR under tension, just as you would have with a whoopie sling?

Also, the whole point of prusiks is that you can slide and center the tarp on the ridgeline. I'm not seeing that ability with a UCR.

No no no! I'm pretty sure you're misunderstanding. This is not to replace the CRL, just the soft shackle prusik's. Look at the last photo in that thread. The yellow zing-it is the CRL. The gray lash-it is the mini-ucr. You use the now standard zing-it with dutch hook and wasp, attach to trees in the usual manner. But instead of prusik's use the mini-ucr. It adjusts very very easily. I haven't tried it on the tarp yet, but from what I tested with today this may just be the winner I've been looking for. Hey, it can't be any worse than what I had Saturday!

It seems like the UCR is in a fixed position; therefore the tarp cannot be centered. Am I missing something?

Yes you're missing something. The ucr slides on the yellow zing-it, it just floats exactly like your prusik does, one at each end of the tarp. The eye would attach to the tarp d-ring. To adjust you simply loosen the same way you do any constrictor and slide away. Milk it to lock into position. Childsplay!

FWIW from what I can tell zing it and it's competitors are relatively poor choices for a ridge line. Any polyester solid braid around 1/8 in in diameter will be more than strong enough, take knots better and make a better bass to put a prussic on. A collapsible line like zing it will work well as the prussic but one is better off with a spliced loop than a knot for the prussic.
    YMMV

Not sure which polyester line you are talking about. How is the stretch on polyester?
