And if someone can point me in the direction of videos or how- to's on placing tie out points mid tarp that would new much appreciated as well.
This forum has been incredibly helpful and informative. So has YouTube but to be fair you all are mostly responsible for those contributions as well.
    Thanks!
So I'm thinking square 10X12 this time and if I get bored/brave a hex. When I gain more sewing confidence that is.

    Hi T_bone,

It's like flatliner said; take your time measuring and go slow. I used electrical tube and rope to make a bow to make the cat cuts. There are other more scientific methods but I read somewhere on these forums it's hard to make a true cat cut because of all the external factors messing up (sewing, pinning, non cooperative fabrics, etc) the true cut.

Cat cuts do look sweet :-)

By mid tarp tie out points do you mean the tie out points on the hem or the one or two side panel pull out points?

I have a couple of close ups of the different methods how I attached the tie outs on my blog; http://opgespannen.blogspot.nl/. Maybe they'll help?

I spaced the tie outs on the hems evenly along the hem; I made one on each corner, then one in the middle and two in the middle between the center tie out point and the corner tie out points.

I'm making a new long sided rectangular wintertarp. With this tarp I want to space the hem tie out points so I can use the corner as doors. For this setup I'll make the ridgeline, pitch the tarp and fiddle until I find the length I need for my doors.

Used this one as well to learn about side panel pull outs:

I can't find the most helpfull thread but I made the side panel pull outs on my wintertarp using this:

Placing the side panel pull outs: http://diygearsupply.com/wp-content/...arp-lowres.jpg

I cut four 4 to 5 inch circles out of hyperD 300,
Sewn the webbing loop onto the circles,
    Measured the attachment points,
    Sewn around the edges,
Sewn a straight stitch under and on the topside of the loop

    Hope this helps. Good luck

When putting on tie-out loops it helps if you 'color-code' the loops a bit, so that the ones on the opposite sides (ends or corners, your choice) of the tarp are the same color. Dip into your supply of webbing and cord scraps to get some different colors. When it is getting dark and rainy, it makes it a lot quicker to figure out what you are grabbing in that cloud of flapping lightweight fabric!
I picked up that idea from some good tents where the pole sleeves are color-coded.

If you make a true square tarp (10x 10, etc.) it opens up the possibility of pitching it across the diagonal (as ridgeline) and having a symmetrical pitch.
