Apex 5 Full Length Underquilt Build

Since I have gleaned so much information from these forums, I thought I would post my experience making a full length underquilt from 5 oz Climashield Apex. I purchased a kit from RSBTR, which worked great (and excellent service). I used 1.0 oz Hyper D for both layers, with the exterior calendared for some wind resistance.

I made mine the size the kit recommends (45x78 finished), but did a few details differently. I added full length side channels from leftover nylon and added grosgrain loops with prussic loops to adjust the location of the quilt on the suspension.

It obviously does not pack as small as a down bag, but still pretty reasonable. Total weight with stuff sack is about 23 oz.

Thanks again for all the great information people have posted!

I like it. I like the color scheme you chose too. I plan on making one of those one day. Awesome quilt friend.

That looks awesome! I've been leaning toward the same project. I'm definitely stealing the grossgrain loops to prusiks. I like using soft shackles for my prusiks, so I can attach them to any loop.

I hadn't thought of that. One thing I have noticed is that prussics don't work quite as well on shock cord due to the diameter change as it shrinks and grows.
