It will ruin the tarp when the grommets rip out, anyway

You'd be best served to look into a few of the "make your own tarp" discussions, and see how they attach the corner tieouts, and then do that yourself. You might have to bother someone with a sewing machine to help you do it, but it's not a long project to sew on four reinforced webbing loops for your corners.

There are already webbing loops @ each corner.

Just ignore the grommets...they're not hurting anything, as long as you don't use them.

Add webbing loops where you decide you need them along the edges, or if you don't sew, get some Grip Clips.

    Good to go.

My Equinox 10x12 has grommets ... here's how I mod'ed them ... works great and easy to do.

I've got the 9'6"X12' Chinook, and I think the way the grommets are set is for a couple of angle variations of the Baker's Hut style of tarp hang.
I've used mine as a cooking/hanging out set up for rainy conditions, and prior to getting a SG 12X12 I used it as a winter tarp for my hammock.
Overall I'm super impressed with what you get for the money, and may grab a gigantic size like the one you have.

Have you modded your 9'6"x12' Chinook or do you use the grommets?

For what it's worth - I just want to second Hawk-eye's solution. Don't remove the grommets, just supplement them with webbing. You'll increase the longevity of your tarp significantly. This is a great solution for anyone with a grommeted tarp that will see moderate to high wind.

    I agree...nice fix.

I imagine you could turn a WallyWorld el cheapo into something usable by employing this mod. Heavy, but at least it would stay where you put it.

Thank ye ... you can crank down on the tie-down and it shows zero strain on the fabric around the grommet.

If the grommets are where I want to set the ropes I use them, and if not I just keep a few sets of grip clips around and put them where ever they are needed.
