    Cheap Tarp

my friend and I are going backpacking in less than a week so I can't order an extra tarp for her. I have a superfly that I have used our two hammocks under numerous times between three trees. Neither of us at cordinaded enough to do bunk bed style. We are going to an area that has designated campsites so I am worried that we won't find the perfect three trees every time. Rain is in the extended forecast. I do have a paint tarp that I used before I got the superfly, but I am wondering if there are any CHEAP lightweight options that I can get at a box store. Anyone have any ideas?

You might have some luck with tyvek homewrap. Can sometimes be acquired at little to no cost from a construction site. It's bulky, noisy, and often has the name of a home improvement type store plastered all over it.

I'd quote a certain book, but that is not allowed.

I'd just get a Wally World tarp or Home Depot tarp. A big box store is probably not the place you want to go for cheap tarps, but you might be able to get an HH Hex at REI if there is one near you.

My biggest money pit has been tarps - I've tried to go cheap a lot.

My limit is probably around $30 total. I do use Amazon but our last couple of orders from there haven't been to reliable on how quickly they get here. We leave Sunday I don't want to spend money and then have to spend money again on something because my order is in transit. I realize I should have planned this a bit better, but we were originally going to tent it.

Then Wally World the tarp - pay $10 to $20 bucks for tarp, then get some stakes and some cheap nylon rope (for guylines, ridgeline, etc.).

The Yukon Outfitters Walkabout is a decent tarp for the price and fairly lightweight.

You'd have to have it shipped to you though. You could probably expedite the shipping for an up charge.

Also I wouldn't recommend it if you're expecting inclement weather.

Or you could practice bunk beds and the v set up and save the money. My son is 12, but from 8 to 11 thats all we did was bunk/v. the colder or wetter the weather the more bunk it was. the nicer the weather the more v. If you can hang one hammock, then you can do this. When doing bunk beds I look for wide trees. The wider the better. If not 2 wide trees at least one at the foot end. Hang the first one as low to the ground as needed (probably lower then you would normally) and have it to the outside of the tree. Then hang the second above and to the other side of the tree. Sometimes hanging in opposite directions (head 2 feet and feet to head). or adding a second tree to the foot end will help. Like I said tho I would only do that if the weather was mild as it puts you slightly out of the tarp if not hung perfectly.

I would be glad to give you any instructions needed. Maybe even a video if it would help.
