Mos double-layer hammocks are bite-proof; most single-layer hammocks aren't. It has been hypothesized that the weaves in two consecutive layers of met hammock fabrics are sufficiently misaligned to keep a mosquito's proboscis from doing its dirty work...

Double-layer 1.1 fabrics should protect hammockers in most cases; double 1.6, 1.7, and 1.9 assuredly will. The bite-proof rule of thumb I've gone by is 3.0 oz/sq yd or better pretty much guarantees you a safe night's sleep, e.g., a double 1.5 or (in the case of my SLD Trail Lair) a 1.9/1.1 combo.

Of course, all of this assumes the sleeping hammock occupant has little or no clothing protection on vulnerable parts of the body in direct contact with the hammock fabric. Single layer hammocks in lighter weights can work with insect treatments, sleeping pads, or UQs to help protect the sleeper, augmenting (at least in part) what protection the fabric alone provides.
