    Toddler in a hammock?

So I want to take my son camping with me this summer. He is 1 and a half. I was wondering everyone's thoughts on the feasibility and safety of having your toddler in his own hammock for a one night trip? Any help would be appreciated

Has he ever been in a hammock before? I think as long as he's used to one it shouldn't be a problem. My son (now 22 mo) frequently naps in a hammock at Day Care. I'd suggest have a Plan B just in case though. Also might want to hang his hammock a little lower.

My oldest son is 3 and I have not been camping with him, but I would feel comfortable with him in a hammock as long as he was under the same tarp as me. I guess it all comes down to how comfertable you are with your toddler's ability to get in/out of the hammock and remain safe throughout the night.

I would be worried about cords. Too many children have had diasterious accidents where cords are concerned. Plus little humans are prone to exploring, I would be concerned about my child getting out of the hammock. When my kids were tiny I kept them very close and tethered to me when we were camping. Where we lived the undergrowth was thick, lots of huge ferns and bushes, too easy for a small child to get lost.

If you have an integral bugnet it would be fine as it would stop him crawling out.

Hang bunk-bed style in the same bugnet. Lose your SRL and you can hang his hammock closer to you.

I would suggest a backyard test hang first. Before I took my kids out camping we set up a tent in the backyard one night to see if they would like it ( they were 4 and 5 years old at the time). Maybe some trial naps to assess how it will go.

I would be uncomfortable doing that.
Possibly consider maybe a few hours in the backyard in a tent.
I used to take the boys on short day hikes, hot cocoa over the alcohol stove, etc.
Only lasted a few hours, but they will tell you what found memories they have of those hikes.

    +1

My 2 year old is terrified of hammocks. If I had waited until we were out in the woods, camp set up and time for bed to discover this, it would have been a miserable trip.

I don't have kids but one of my close friends and her husband take their toddler with them and he just sleeps on her chest in her hammock with her. I would have thought that taking such a young child backpacking would be a huge deal but, they act like it ain't no thang.
