    Question Down costs

    Hi All,
I have been looking at the different types of underquilts constructed here and looking at all the down used and comparing the cost of what down costs, ie, 30.00 for 3.1 oz at Speers site, if I need 15 oz of down I end up shelling out - by my calculations - 150.00 just for down. Is that how much it costs to make one of these?

Yes - that's how much it costs. Still cheaper than buying one...but it shows the pretty small profit margin our quilt makers are operating on.

Yeah, I'm working on my underquilt, and I'm gonna need almost 16 ounces. It'll be a full length differential cut one with 3" of loft and 2.5" baffles. Probably gonna get the down from Stormcrow, which will come out to about $120, so to answer your question, yes, that sounds about right for a big underquilt.

    Hope the helps,

Aflac didn't help him, he had a preexisting condition.

I am amazed at how the people selling quilts can do it at any kind of profit. Premium material are so costly and there is quite a bit of sewing involved. You better like doing it. I'm pretty quick at sewing except for 2 sides. The inside and the outside.
