can one of you fellas that thin yours with mineral spirits post what brand of silicon you use? I've got a tarp coming soon and I need to seal some seams on it. I was gonna use the squirt tube of silnet, but it has a tendency to stick to itself.

I've used both the DAP and GE brands and they work equally well. Whatever is cheapest at the hardware store.

    Thanks Jerry.

What consistency do you mix it to?

I like it pretty runny. Thinner than a 50/50 mix. Almost watery, but not quite. If it starts to thicken while using it, add a little more thinner.

Good news Fulminated... I'm adding it to the mail stream tomorrow morning. You'll have it in two to three days.

So another ? bout seam sealing. When you guys seam seal, do you seam seal both top side and underside, or only one and if sone which side?
Sometimes I like to hike and think, And sometimes I just like to hike.

Hiking is'ent about waiting for the storm to pass its about learning to hike in the rain.

I just do the top. My reasoning goes like this: you wouldn't put shingles on the inside of your roof.

Maybe, but I've seen people with cedar shake shingles in use as wall paneling. I've also seen grown people use shopping carts as BBQ grills, so maybe I'm not hanging out with the right kind of people.

I'm another who uses thinned out silicone from Home Depot with my tarp strung between two somethings. I use a brush and have no intention of reusing it ever again after one use. I really stab at the seam with the brush and mash in as much of the silgoo as possible. I do generally do a very light film of it on the inside of the tarp. Really, for no other reason than I'm already standing there with silgoo in a container so I figure I might as well use a bit more. Not like it's going to hurt anything or add more than a gram or two to the overall weight.
