Matimeo, I've just recently heard of mule tape. I'm only seeing it in huge 1000ft bundles. Do you have a source for less? (While you get more, the overall cost is higher with those large wheels.)

The carabiner is just what happens to come with a lot of these cheapo hammocks I'm looking at. However, I'm hoping even the littlest kids can help setup their own hammocks. I could probably teach the oldest some knots and he could do it with my supervision. Not against the mule tape idea, though, but it'd come in under budget if I could find a 100 - 200 ft roll (I've just done a cursory Google search so far, but thought you or others might know a source immediately.)

    Thanks!

    Howdy,

My tree straps are simple webbing like this:
    https://www.strapworks.com/ProductDe...uctCode=HWP112

I bought 20 Ft., cut in half. On one end I tied a bowline on a bite which made the loop to wrap the tree and feed the strap and attach to the hammock with a marlin spike hitch.

You may be able to find something cheaper but this was really inexpensive and made some killer straps.

If you decide to make your own, some people have DIY'ed their hammocks with these:

About the load bearing carabiners, I have a couple of these, they are light and I know they will not fail:

ecologito, thanks! I especially love all the colors of the webbing, I like bright colors so I might have to pick up some of that.

How big is that mini carabiner? It's hard to tell from the photo if it's particularly smaller that normal ("mini") or not.

    Dimensions: 3x2x½"

It is not tiny but for rock climbing standards it is pretty small. My favorite part is the 22kN strength (5,000 lbs).
