    Nice.

From what I've read, the 319W isn't nearly as good of a machine as the 500A. I've been looking for a 500A or a 401A myself now that my T&S 648 is crapping out again.

I've had a green and tan 319 and now I want a black one; no other reason really... If they had a needle position selector they would be perfect, well, that and used regular needles. They handle the thicker material better than the 400-500 series I think.

But really, I just want a black one; there's something about a sewing machine that looks like a freight locomotive with piano keys on top!

Here is the Thread Injector that my Mother-In-Law gave me. She broke the plastic spoil holder off of it and bought a new machine. I asked her what she was going to do with it and she said "toss it". I asked, she gave and I fashioned up a new spool holder out of a piece of metal rod affixed to the carry handle.

Free is always the best price and my Wife is mad because I know how to sew and she doesn't ( but I promised to teach her and she still hasn't taken me up on my offer yet )

    Good source for parts?

I've been cleaning up my old Necchi and dove in to the motor last night. I broke the carbon brush as I tried to push it out of the hole so cleaned everything up using a Qtip and alcohol and now am looking for a replacement brush...

I found a couple websites advertising a couple part numbers available so need to figure out the differences before I order but was wondering if anyone had a favorite source for things like this...

    Any recommendations?

    DBlock:

Brushes are brushes. They shouldn't stick, and they shouldn't be so loose as to rock. But start with an over-sized one, and sand or file it down to fit. You're good to go.

Second what demostix said, call up an electric service shop and get a brush. Parts are pretty much spread about. Local machine service centers are by far your best option and should be checked first always before venturing out into the soul sucking void of internet doom. If local doesn't pan out, start with online machine service centers like ace sewing for home use and for industrial check atlas levy, Miami sewing, and ace sewing again.

I really don't suggest going on eBay for sewing machine parts. I doubt I need to elaborate on that.

Last year I picked up a 1930 Singer Treadle machine for making light weight gear. Then last month my sister gave me the machine that my mother used, another Singer Treadle machine, with an instruction manual from 1929!

The 1930 machine has a shuttle style bobbin that gives me trouble. The 1929 machine has a more modern bobbin mechanism that works well; it may actually be a later model. It does an excellent job with extremely light fabric. I use it for hemming 1.1 nylon and making ultra light freezer bag cozies.

The pretty one on the left is the 1930 model.
