    Helloooo northeast Illinois here

HI all! I've been "hanging" around the forum for quite some time learning stuff. I had to get away from the tent because of a bad back, so I'm hoping the hammock will help me out there. I haven't had my first hang yet. Gathering info and waiting for cooler weather. I'm in Northeast Illinois for the most part. In farm country about 70 miles northwest of Chicago. I've learned a lot here and there's a lot of great people. Happy to meet everyone!

    Mark

Welcome Mark from the balmy south. I would recommend checking out Shugs youtube videos to get some valuable info on hammock camping and rigging. Also check out the Ultimate Hang book for some great hammock reading.

So a question I do have, in Illinois, can you just walk into a state park and hike and camp anywhere? I spent some time in Oregon and you could just pull off in a state park, hike and camp wherever

Illinois State parks are not too bad as far as fees go ( no daily use fees to just visit the park) but are very regulated as far as camping goes. Currently the use of Hammocks in Illinois State Parks would be a BIG NO. Rules for tents are pretty intense as well and you need to get your reservation through a third party site.
