Well poop. I have discussed with her that when we do a section/larger hike, it will probably be easier if we don't rely on hanging right beside each other, it's just nice to do so.

Smokehouse used to make the Honeymoon suite which is a tarp for 2 not sure f he is making it anymore and I bought his personal one from him. I used it to hang side by side with my son and it worked great.

That is pretty interesting. I think if a cottage maker came up with something like this, there would be a market. It might not get a ton of orders, but there are a bunch of threads on this forum about two person hanging, with and without spreader bars, etc... I would assume that a decent design would get enough orders to make it worthwhile.
Homer: Sir, I need to know where I can get some business hammocks.
Hank Scorpio: Hammocks? My goodness, what an idea. Why didn't I think of that? Hammocks!
That is a great idea, but I was wanting to go lighter than my Hennessy.
Why not bunk bed style the hammocks? We did that this past weekend with great success and it rained the whole time.

Neither one of us are climbers.
In some cases, yes.
What was this in response to? I believe the bottom line is yes a big tarp will work for two hammocks as long as your expectations are that it's more of a three season over cover setup. I would recommend getting one of the larger tarps like the SLD Winter Haven or similar and give it a go.
