    Question about sewing "silpoly"

    Hello All,
I am looking at my first DIY project. A pack cover, now I know its just a little project. But it is what I need right now. I am making it out of silpoly. Is there a need for a walking foot, roller foot etc. on the sewing machinč due to the slickness of the fabric?
I am also planning other projects so i am not afraid of an investment if it is warranted.

Any help from the DIY crowd would be greatly appreciated.

For rolled hems or simple stitches I have never needed a different foot. I use l clips if I need to keep the fabric from slipping and a standard foot works just fine.
Here is one of my first large gear DIY projects.

Just be careful. The DIY slope is slipperier than the Silpoly fabric.

Take your time and you will be fine. You will find that if you help the slippery fabric along pulling it slightly it will help your machine feed evenly.
A DIY Pack Cover is a good starting point.

I've made 5 silpoly tarps and from what I can tell, it's slick as all get out but as long as you keep everything lined up and take your time, it should be good. I've never used clips or pins, and hammocks and tarps were my first sewing projects. It all turned out well enough but not professional, by any means. I've since gotten better, but even as slick as silpoly is, it's fairly straightforward.

Have never had a walking foot, but have considered the investment. I always end up spending all my money on material instead!

Take it slow and enjoy yourself. SilPoly just takes a bit of patience.
"We are the greatest bulldozers to walk erect. Will we ever permit Mother Nature–truly our mother–to do her thing, undisturbed and unmarred? Will we ever be content to play a passively observant role in the universe, and leave off this unceasing activity? I do not wish man in control of the universe. I wish nature in control, and man playing only his just role as one of its inhabitants."
