    Red River Gorge Recommendations

We are headed to the RRG at the end of October. I would like some trail suggestions from those of you that have hiked some in that area. We will be doing a Friday-Saturday out on Sunday trip. Would really like to know areas, trails, tips, etc. we should consider. One thing we do want to do is hang next to a creek.

    Appreciate in advance any help.

    Thanks.

I have two suggestions. Since it will be a weekend and probably very busy, try the unofficial trail up Copperas Creek. That drain system is about two miles deep and has multiple options for creekside camping. Parking is at the lot next to the concrete bridge and the Orbourne Bend trailhead. Another off the beaten path is taking Rough Trail west of where it intersects Chimney Top Road (there is a parking lot there). Head down the trail to Chimney Top Creek, leave the trail and follow the creek South (making a left at the creek). There are a half dozen options within 1 mile once you leave the trail.

Be aware that you can not camp within 300 feet of an official trail, that severely limits camping in the RRG if you stick to official trails. Or if you stick to official trails, you need to bushwack and find a campsite. There are places to hang next to a creek, but they are mostly (all?) unofficial (user) trails. Do you have a map of the gorge?

Weekends in October, expect lots of company on the trails
