    new hanger

i picked upa eno hammock from rei a year or 2 ago. I've been trying to find the perfect size tarp, that will double for canoe camping and hanging. i'm leaning for probably a 8x10 or 10x10/ not really sure what polysil fabric yet. now considering making my own tarp, the way i think it should be made.
i found HYOH podcast , then found the forums. thank you for having me. ~ blackdawg

    Welcome to the forum, Blackdawg!

I've used a DIY 8x10 silnylon tarp for the past 6 years. I find that it's about the perfect size for both backpacking and canoe tripping.

It's a plain ol' rectangle, no cat cuts, no doors. It has tie-outs at the corners, and mid-length on the 8' sides. It has 2 equally-spaced tied-outs on each of the 10' sides. I keep thinking that I could add mid-panel pullouts to it, but so far haven't missed them.

It was super-simple to make, and so far has been sufficiently flexible for everything I've needed it for.

    Good luck!

Welcome from Southern Maryland! I made my own hammock and tarp with no previous sewing experience. Watch a couple videos - esp the ones by Ripstop by the Roll - and you will be surprised by how easy it is!

i saw one that was way to small. that had nylon webbing sewn into the center ridgeline with D rings spaced periodically. something you could really heave against.
