the EOS is a nice head lamp but I find it a bit too focused (beam to narrow) for putzing around the campsite after dark - I use a Quad instead - either one can use lithium batteries however so both are better than my old Aurora which I managed to damage using lithium batteries

i made a diffuser (from instructions on jim wood's base camp i believe).
it makes it softer & a little less focused... better for reading in the hammock<g>.

The best headlamp I have owned to date is the Petzel E+Lite. You can see a video here.

I have been meaning to start a thread about the headlamp with some pics. What I love about it:

    *Small and compact
    *Weighs 27 grams including batteries
    *Waterproof
    *Has red LED
    *VERY veristile.
*Good battery life (45 hours low, 35 hours high)

One of the best features is it's ability to swivel 360* and has a built in clip so you can wear it on you head, clipped to hat or shirt, free standing, or around your wrist. The headlamp is perfect for a hammock because you can clip it on your ridge line and move the light any direction you want. I clip it just above my head and point the light toward my feet so that at no time does the light shine directly in my eyes. Great for reading. I also like the red LED. If I turn the light on when getting up for bathroom breaks the RED is not blinding as the 3 super bright LEDs.

headchange, that is the exact same light that I use and I love it. Energizer makes something like it for $5 but it is nothing like it, the energizer doesn't have the options or the power. I bought mie for $30, and I take it everywhere. I had to hike 2 miles in the dark a month ago and it worked great. I now recommend it to everyone.
