For anyone with a Kelty Noah's Tarp 12 looking to DIY some snake skins...
Last night I decided to make some snake skins - nice fast little project.
I was struggling with finding dimensions online for a set for my Noah's 12 tarp so I set it up and did them myself.
For anyone else with a Noah's 12, here's what worked for me:
I went by Hobby Lobby and picked up some Black tulle for a whopping $.89 per yard. I got 3 yards and that should make 3 sets at these dimensions.
Anyway, I sewed a set up and tried it out and I think I'm good to go. Nice snug fit, but not tight or in any way unmanageable. I use my tarp as rectangle, and not diamond, so the 75" finished length works for a 12' ridge line. Obviously that's not long enough for a Noah 12 in diamond configuration. You would want to be in the 96" range I would think as the diamond configuration is around 16' on the ridge.
Finished dimensions with a 1" seam allowance and rolled 1/2" hems at each end are around 75" long, 1" diameter opening on one end and 7.5" diameter at the other. The hardest part was cutting the angle accurately and straight on a 77" piece of tulle...
I stuff it in a Sea-to-summit Nylon stuff sack and it fits nicely in the XS (4 liter) size.
Sorry, I didn't take pics, but most of us have seen snake skins before I'll attach pics later if I end up setting it up again today.
So, for about $1 in materials and an hour of my time, I have some decent skins.
