    A Frame Hammock Stand

I used regular Aluminum Tent poles that I got at Quest Outfitters and used plumbing fittings to put it together. It was difficult to make connectors that worked for the angles used. (There were some promising connectors in the bimini section at West Marine, but I didn't want to use pipe that thick) This stand is 52 inches high. The disclaimer being, my hammock is really short (9 feet or less) so if your hammock is the normal 11 feet I think you would be sitting on the ground. The tarp has it's own vertical poles.

The essential part of me can not be discussed here. Ask me in person.

I like it! What size of the QuestOutfitter poles did you use? How much weight has your set up been able to support?

Looks like you had to get a little creative with the fittings!

    Interesting!

Why use a bipod though vs. a single pole since you already have two guylines? Or perhaps use a single guyline since you have the two poles?

    Cool setup!!

I really do not know why, but I think I would like a function on this forum that alerts me to any and all posts related to "stands"...it is reminiscent of my reaction to passing the flashlight/headlamp aisle at any store...must look, consider if I want to buy SOMETHING, or at least examine all the things fairly closely.

I'll second the question about what size poles you got and ask where you got the connectors. I just built myself a turtlelady stand out of 2x2 lumber and a fence rail, but I'd love to have something as light and foldable as yours looks.

I used 2 26" poles for the verticals and an 18 inch for the horizontal. The reason it is an A is because I thought a single pole unsupported in the middle would buckle. I looked at the No Ground poles and wanted something a little easier and a little heavier. I used two tie outs because I didn't trust a single stake in the ground. You could use one stake you have the right stake and the right ground. The stand is short for long hammocks (my 10 ft is just off the ground) and the tarp poles are separate. I love having the stand as a back up when I am planning on staying in a campground with others. Trees are not always exactly where I want to sleep.

PS. I think the poles are half inch. I didn't try to over weight the stand to see how much it would hold, but with my 160 pounds it seemed very stable. Like I said, I am very close to the ground so I will use it as long as it holds up then I guess I will try again.

What about the connectors? Where did you end up getting them?

I got the NoGround ones but in the "car camp" model - heavier and simpler than her hiking pole model.

I plan on a kayak trip in 2 weeks and will be attempting hammock camping on a river sand bar (trees are available a couple hundred feet walk as needed if I fail)

This bipod stand coupled with two stake out points would probably prove pretty solid as long as the poles themselves can withstand - looks great!

Looks really great! Could we get a parts list for the items and where you bought them?
