    Question

Any updated info on blackbishop still making KAQ's? I may be interested per recent threads on how well they work.

I "pinged" blackbishop351 recently, but got no response.

A friend and I reviewed the KAQ instructions in detail. We have a hard time figuring out how anyone would make any money selling a KAQ for the MSRP of $150, when the cost of goods is $90 to $120, and 12 hours labor are required to put it together.

Even at $200, flipping burgers pays more. If you can pay $250 for a KAQ, why wouldn't you pay $350 for a down quilt?

Is the KAQ limited to being a DIY project?

OTOH, I personally value the synthetic construction, and am happy to have a used KAQ.

Like Patrick said, BlackBishop hasn't been active on the forum in quite some time. He stopped making the KAQ's even before that.

    It would seem so.

    Reference link to KAQ instructions.

I wish I knew what his long term plans were with regard to his products. If you buy the materials wholesale you could actually make some money doing this. Not enough to live a king's life, but would feed my other bad habits perhaps. Does anyone know how to get in touch with him other than email or PM?

If I remember correctly the KAQ website was resurrected in an archival sense to provide access to the hammock cover pattern that is on there. The site had gone down for a while and no one seemed to have the directions for the covers. Somewhere he discussed this move on the forum but I can't seem to find the post where he did. To my knowledge he resolved the KAQ project to a DIY status shortly before I joined the forum a year or so ago.
I may be slow... But I sure am gimpy.

It was originally Patrick that designed and made the quilt and hosted the directions on his site. He eventually got busy with life and let blackbishop351 take over making them. Bishop only made them for a few months, though.

Patrick's site did go down for a few days sporadically until he moved it to a hosted server rather than his closet. When it was being sporadic, we did take the effort to create a copy of the instructions (as linked above in this thread) on this site.

BlackBishop also used to have a site, but it was devoted to his own BlackCat tarp instructions. It did go down permanently, and the domain expired. Fortunately we were also able to keep a copy of those plans.

It's not patented, and the instructions are in the public domain. It cannot become proprietary now. Go for it, Mr. Prez!
