    I use the old "L" trick for finding 30degs: walk away from your hammock about 15-ft or so, put your arm straight out, and make an L, or backwards L depending on which strap you are on.

    Your index finger should be lined up with the tree, the thumb at the hammock/strap point. Move the strap up or down to match the top of your index finger.

    You are creating a right triangle, with your straps being the hypotenuse. Your angles are 30/60/90, hence you find your 30degs. It works well enough for me.

    ABSOLUTELY NO!!!!! People peddling the 30 deg or bust line don't understand the issue. Keep flat enough to have some tension on the ridge line. More than that adds un needed stress to the system. Less than that and the ridge line cannot do it's function. The 30 deg thing originated for folks who do not have a ridge line as a quick way to get set up. There is nothing sacred about it.
    YMMV

    Actually the ridge line is designed to maintain the sag that would happen at about a 30* angle (about 83% of total length). It did originate before the ridge line and the ridge line was designed as a means to help maintain that 30* amount of sag when distance between trees makes it necessary to maintain a lower angle.

    I press and hold the '0' on my iPhone, I think the iPad would be the same. And just ALT+0176 on my PC...it's become second nature

    Well, I'll be dipped! Holding 0 on an iPad does make the ° symbol.

    Now I know...and knowing is half the battle.

    On pc that only works with a number pad, not the top row number keys

    on Android devices, if you download the Google keyboard and turn off the device's preloaded on screen keyboard (ESPECIALLY if you have a Samsung) then you have all sorts of symbols available, plus the autocorrect/autofill works a lot better. Just like mentioned about the iphone, some symbols if you do a long press, will give you a choice of symbols...

    For instance if I long press the "1” I have a choice of ¹,½,⅓,¼,⅛
    "2": ²,⅔
    "*": ★,†,‡
    "^": ←,↑,↓,→

    The preloaded one from Samsung also does this, but it's not as extensive, and the autocorrect is terrible
