Planning a trip to Colorado Springs area, suggestions please?!

Planning a Christmas break roadie from Indy to Colorado Springs area. Would like some suggestions on what kind of weather to expect, (I know it's probably a huge range/gamble) and would also like any suggestions on good camping spots. I will most likely be car camping just in case. I'll also be in my 4runner so no problems getting to remote areas (would actually prefer to do a little light wheeling on the way to a camp site). I have no experience or knowledge with this area so sorry if this isn't specific enough. Thanks in advance.

There is more wheeling in Colorado than you could possibly imagine. Look into some of the off-road clubs there and I'm confident you'll find a mix of trails and camping spots.

Most back roads are going to be snowed in by Christmas break, except at the lower elevations. Look into the Black Forest area east of the Co. Springs as an option. The Front Range can see temps from high 40s to sub zero and some snow to several feet of snow at that time of year so be prepared. I don't know the area super well, but a couple of areas you might want to consider are Red Rocks and Seven Falls.

a good place to car camp would be eleven mile canyon that time of the year , or even just pike national forest on rampart rang road , lots of pull off spots to car camp and those roads are well kept , do be ready for it to be cold ... lows at night will be in the 20's to the negatives that time of the year ...

Not really what you asked, but there is this really great fried chicken restaurant just outside of Colorado Springs called the juniper valley ranch. Not to be missed - well, hard to see from the round so it is easy to miss when driving past.

I would recommend The Colorado Trail. We have a 50/50 chance for snow on the front range at Christmas time but the mtn will have snow for sure.
It has been a very dry and warm fall here in Denver so far and they are predicting that to continue.
