Hennessy Supershelter AND the JRB Nest?

I'm moving from Alabama to Michigan by April, and so I'm rethinking what cold weather gear want and need. I already have the Supershelter for my Hyperlite, and I've wanted a JRB Nest for a while.

Has anyone tried using the JRB Nest with the Supershelter? I'm thinking about removing the pad from the SS and using the JRB Nest between the hammock and the SS Undercover. Has anyone else tried a similar setup or is it just overkill?

I think using the nest in place of the SS pad would be counterproductive. The SS undercover is going to compress the down insulation and trap moisture, neither of which is likely to improve your insulation.

I use the super shelter inside the nest to prevent moisture from condensation compromising the down. I have not used the underpad with the nest yet, but plan to during the hang in Feb up in the Adirondacks.

If you don't attach the SS to the support lines you can get the Nest in there without compressing it. That is what I did with my SS and PP. No issues and was nice and warm.

Not a good idea at all. The Nest's greatest attribute is the velcro that mates to the entrance slit. You can't use the SS outside the Nest, it'll get soaked with condensation. Using the Nest on the outside would be to neglect it's greatest CBS reducing attribute. If you want something outside the Nest, get something breathable like a Driducks Poncho with the JRB undercover mod.

Let me add that I had a VB in place to prevent to moisture from transferring to the PP.

I used the nest on the outsdide of the ss to the upper single digets on my thru hike in the beginning till about May with a western 20 degee bag inside as quilt. after temps were above 40 degree i sent bag home and just used the nest inside as quilt and ss for under cover, then when I got to the whites I sent for bag again and then went back to nest on outside and then the ss next to hammock. no condentsation problems and using nest on outside stopped any compression issues. As far as getting in and out I never used the slit in nest or ss just slid it to the side and got in, it would then usually just kinda spring back in place or with very minimal put hand then thru slit and kind of work it over no problem
