Those of you with kids probably know this movie. So has anybody had to watch the cartoon Fern Gully a hundred times if so you would see that Avatar is pretty much identical. All in all though I found the movie very insulting as an American and especially as a veteran.

There isn't any military in the movie. Those "guys with the guns" are all mercenaries paid by the mining company.

Much of the movie was a jab at America ,our military and our global policies. I`m not a some type of political nut so I feel I can make this statement very objectively. They wouldn`t have sold this movie if it was more of a direct comparison.

I'm afraid the political intention(s) of Avatar, if any, are beyond the scope of this forum.

Let's try to go back to the original topic...the hammocks that appeared in the movie.

I watched it this weekend, loved it. The hammock scene made a big ole grin cross my face. I would love to find a tree that size and hang that high. I didn't take any of it seriously. It was just fun. Usual theme, bad guy turns good, saves the day, gets girl. That is part of what makes it fun. Hammocks were just a little icing on the cake. My wife poked me as soon as they appeared.

Agree with AS - I wasn't fond of the political statements in the movie either, but this isn't the place to discuss it. Let's keep it fun and talk about hammocks, or even the great 3D effects, and take the political discussion to another forum. Thanks from the moderating team for keeping HF on topic and civil.

I`ll take the heat round for this derail ,I knew better and I have a policy of never getting involved in or starting political discussions on the internet anyways. So sorry about that.
Having said that those leaf hammocks looked cold and uncomfortable.
