As a longtime (three decades and counting) reader of good scifi, I thought the movie was derivative and the plots old as mold, rehashing a zillion cliches that were presented more eloquently by better writers....

It may have been a Ferngully clone, but the theme was presented in a much more lyrical and balanced fashion by Princess Mononoke, with better characters, better storytelling, and better acting.

The hammocks didn't have straps, dutch clips or whoopie slings, so were clearly not good for human-like people - the Navi had carbon fiber composite bones, or so they claimed in the opening of the movie. Probably weighed like a hundred pounds in spite of their larger size. Which would also account for (in still a lame physics-defying fashion) how they survived the long fall out of the sky followed by leaf-surfing to the ground.

Oh, don't get me wrong - 3-D and Pretty Graphics still make it a good watch. But it won't be on my re-watch list when it comes out to rent....

Yeah - I won't go out of my way to see it again...it was the IMAX 3D that made it an experience.

I'm not seeing it now, but a while back someone posted (more than once maybe) a link to some really fancy & really expensive hammocks.
One of them was a leaf, suspended only by one end, the stem.
I too will something make and joy in it's making
