    Knots, knots, knots

I am just wondering if anyone ever put together a primer or list of the basic knots you should have in your arsenal for hammock camping. If not, what knots would you recommend be included?

    I started something like this

    Prusick hitch
    Trucker's hitch
    Taut line hitch
    Figure eight
    Slipped buntline hitch
    Slipped overhand knot

I am sure I am missing a bunch, but I thought it would be useful to put them all in one easy resource (unless someone beat me to it)

Should add a marlin spike hitch to the list
    There's magic in the woods,
if you know where to look for it.

That is an awesome resource. But I am thinking something that focuses specifically on the knots one would need for hammocking and how each knot relates to the hammock experience. Like a primer for which knots you should learn and how you use them before you set up your first hammock.

Anything that uses a "slippery" knot that can easily be pulled out. Marlin Spike, trucker's, slippery half... those are the only knots I ever need or use when setting up camp (I do have one Dutch Fleaz in my tarp CRL).

Oh, and I have prussiks on my tarp stake-out lines but I don't untie them, typically, just leave the lines attached to the tarp.

    add:
bowline (substitutes for Fig 8, said to use less cord, I think),
Siberian (Evenk) hitch - love this one

What johnspenn said. I like knots that are easy to tie and easy to untie--knots that are tied in the bight(middle of rope without access to either end). Here is my list--I always forget several
Marlin spike hitch, Farrimond friction hitch, Siberian hitch, Prusik, alpine butterfly loop, Kalmyk Loop(KL is a slipped Eskimo Bowline),slip knot, trucker hitch made with slip knot, diamond knot and double diamond knot, grapplers hitch, slipped Zeppelin bend!
These are the knots I use--because of ease of use.

I thought this one was really cool when I learned it, but now I think a marlinspike hitch does the same thing for me (usu. just hanging stuff like a backpack by a carabiner - I don't use it for suspension), and has the added benefit of being easily undone (indeed, it falls apart). For what applications might the Alpine butterfly be better than the marlinspike? Thanks -
