Another thought - check to see which state parks have backcountry campsites that you can hike to. Chattahoochee Bend, down here near Newnan, has a several at the end of a 6 mile walk from the main parking area. They get a lot less use than the main campgrounds

Don Carter on Lanier has probably the same problems as Red Top. The forest service campgrounds are closed, but most have winter camping without running water. As i recall, Blue Ridge is about an hour and a half from Marietta. Welcome to setting up in the dark. CoE campgrounds seem to be closed until spring.
You look a little run down. Are you sure you won't be sick that Friday?

I'd do Panther Creek Falls off 985 before you get to tocca. 3.1 mile hike

On the north side of Lake Burton, there are two dirt roads worth checking out for car camping (or short hike from car). Wildcat Rd, and the road across from Moccasin Creek State Park which leads to Hemlock Falls.

Wildcat Road is a longer trek, but there are two actual campgrounds along the way, as well as a very popular sliding rock area. There are many pulloffs along the way to stop and camp. You can go a long way on that road before you reach a gate cutoff. At that point, you're less than a mile from Addis Gap on the AT.

The Hemlock Fall road is short with an honor system pay box at the parking area. The trail starts relatively close to Moccasin Creek at the parking area, then veers away before paralleling the creek the rest of the way to the falls. There is excellent camping in the area just a short walk in from the parking area, some right next to the creek. The trail to the falls is 1.1m and very easy. There is decent hanging at the falls, though that area is posted as no camping. My guess is that hammocks would be allowed to stay IF a ranger person were to come by, which I've never seen.

    Calling all Georgia Folk

I forgot how far you were willing to drive, but the South Cumberland area in tennesse is nice and peaceful. It's a little north of Chattanooga but less than a 2 hour drive straight up 75 from Marietta. There's lots there but my favorites are stone door, savage falls, Hobbs cabin, and greeter falls.

Was this video taken recently? If so, that's pretty impressive flow given the prolonged drought we're experiencing.
